Abstract:
Activation of the endogenous alpha1-adrenergic receptor (AR) associated human aortic smooth muscle cells resulted in a dose and time-dependent increase in the levels of mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (ROS).

Materials & Methods:
Human aortic smooth muscle cells were plated in 35mm glass bottom culture dishes (MatTek Corporation Ashland MA). To assess the role of the alpha-AR on apoptosis the cells were treated with phenylephrine for 12 hrs.
